Electrolysis hair removal is an electric current that is sent to each hair follicle through a probe (small needle). Each hair is treated individually and removed with tweezers.
There are 3 modalities:
- Thermolysis: heat energy used to destroy the germinative cells that cause hair growth
- Galvanic: direct current used to cause a chemical reaction called lye which creates sodium, hydroxide ions, chlorine and hydrogen
- Blend: a combination of thermolysis and galvanic methods

Laser is a beam of light that treats sections of the skin, about the size of a nickel, at a time. Laser does not involve probes. Laser does not provide permanent results.
No. For electrolysis treatments, the electrologist needs to be able to hold the hair with tweezers in order to remove the hair after each insertion. If you need to shave due to an event or other reasons, you should only schedule your next electrolysis appointment when you know you will have hair growth in the area being treated.
No. You will need multiple treatments. Please see the Treatment Time Chart below for an estimated time-frame of how long you will need to treat each area. These are only estimates. Each person is different. General health and medical conditions impact the time needed to clear hair from any area of the body. Consistency and after-care are also factors in the progress made.
Your electrologist must know about your medical conditions in order to provide safe treatments for you. You may be asked to provide a doctors note prior to receiving treatment.
Please refer to the Treatment Time Chart below. There are many factors that go into permanently removing a hair follicle. The density and state of the hair impact the progress. Appointment frequency and clients at-home care effect the progress made in each electrolysis session.
Paradoxical Hypertrichosis is when hair growth is activated where there was no hair before, meaning there were dormant hair follicles that didn't produce hair. Typically, this can happen after laser treatments.
A 24-hour notice for cancellations and/or rescheduling appointments is required. Failure to do so will result in a $25 cancellation fee.
